		Do you remember the television commercials last year that featured hip hamsters driving around in the all-new Kia Soul? If not, click here
to view the commercial. Now, Kia Motors America is at again using the
hamsters once again to push the Kia Soul model. Though, this time
around the hamsters have been upgraded and have become a little more
&#8220;hip&#8221; featuring clothes and being able to rap. &nbsp;



A story from Fortune
asked the question of do these hamsters actually bring more customers
into the showroom? The answer is yes. The story said Kia has found that
the ads are resonating with its target audience, Gen Y. Sales of the
Soul have increased since the ads started running some dealers have
said. According to the story, Kia&#8217;s first ad featuring the hamsters
last year won Nielson&#8217;s best automotive ad of the year.

JKR Advertising &amp; Marketing signed five new clients in January,
representing more than $3.8 million in ad billings for the company.
The Orlando-based marketing firm signed five of the 14 dealerships
in Georgia and South Carolina owned by Charleston, S.C-based Stokes
Auto Group, Appleton, Wis.-based Russ Darrow Auto Group's six Kia&nbsp;
dealerships in Wisconsin; Wallace Kia, Bristol, Tenn.; Kia of Brooklyn
Park, Minneapolis; and Anderson Ford, Lincoln, Neb.
Johnson said the agency represents mostly Kia dealerships and its 67 dealers account for $42 million in billings annually.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jeff Johnson Briefs NCM 20-Group on the Principles and Nuances of Auto Retail Advertising&nbsp;

It&#8217;s a rare instance when
an active vendor is invited to present to a 20-group, Jeff Johnson,
Partner, Kia Guy, and Kia auto-retail advertising expert, for 2&#189; hours
held the attention of 14 Kia dealers on the topic of best advertising
practices and principles. 
The 20-group, facilitated by Jeff Bethel of

NCM Associates, was ensconced
in downtown Orlando&#8217;s 4-Star Grand Bohemian Hotel for the meeting. [For
those unfamiliar with 20-Group dynamics &#8211; the atmosphere is serious,
forthright and frank. Failure and success are shared equally and the
peer review can be very bracing.]
Attendees flew in from all
over the country, many gaining a short respite from the harsh weather
elsewhere - Sean Baker and Hugh Hall from Performance Kia in Everett,
Washington were the winners of the
longest distance traveled award.

Scheduled to present for 1
hour, Jeff held the attention of over a dozen seasoned car dealers for
an extra hour and a half providing for a robust question and answer
session.

A goodly number of the
20-Group are already clients of JKR and much of what was revealed was
not news to them, however for those who were not acquainted with JKR
had proof positive on hand &#8211; because the JKR clients in attendance are
all consistent top-performers.
The overall focus was
gaining market share through the acceleration of intenders and
conquering competitor&#8217;s intenders. Creative and Media Strategy were
discussed in detail, but the emphasis throughout was accountability &#8211;
making every dollar expended as tied to a vehicle delivered. In short,
making a true ROI on advertising dollars.

&#8220;A comprehensive review of
the fundamentals is worthwhile in any endeavor,&#8221; said Jeff Johnson.
Sometimes a dealer has to be reminded to avoid brand building and focus
upon overcoming the primary objections prospects have when it comes
time to making a purchase, how to address Price, Payment, Trade, Down
Payment and Credit. The trick is to keep the message fresh and timely.&#8221;

When the federal government
wants the American people to act in a certain way its called "social
engineering".&nbsp; Why for example, is interest on a home mortgage tax
deductible when rent is not?&nbsp; It's simple; the government wants you to
own a house!&nbsp; 
The latest gambit by the
feds to control our behavior was "Cash for Clunkers".&nbsp; On the surface
it was a great deal for the American people, or was it?&nbsp; Sure, dealers
sold a ton of cars and made a lot of money, but pay back in September
has been hell.&nbsp; The unintended consequences of the CARS program was the
disruption of the normal flow of new car shoppers, the crunch on dealer
cash flow awaiting the same people that brought you the DOT to process
dealer payments, the depletion of inventory, the lowering of factory
incentives and the worst hangover month in our industry since 1981!
Thanks for the unintended
consequences Washington!&nbsp; The good news is no matter how hard they try
to alter behavior; the American consumer needs and wants the great cars
we sell!

conveniently located.
Convenient to whom? For some, if anything is more than an arm&#8217;s reach
away it&#8217;s not convenient, for others, they&#8217;ll go to great lengths and
think nothing of it. Convenience, like beauty, is in the eye of the
beholder.If you are located on the
Aorta Highway, &#189; mile south of the Gortex Bypass, avoid the temptation
of claiming convenience, because to the folks on the other side of town
way down past the Femoral Freeway you ain&#8217;t. Just state your location
simply and clearly, if the ad is in print &#8211; provide a map. Are you near
a well-known landmark? Let everybody know via radio and cable.Structure your message and
appeal so that people in your area will go to the other side of town
for demonstrably better prices, service, reputation and peace of mind.

&nbsp;Now that Cash for Clunkers is over, I ask Kia dealers in particular... NOW WHAT?&nbsp; 
&nbsp;
As dealers wean themselves from the mother&#8217;s milk of government money and the factory cuts back on incentives; how will you maintain the success of Cash for Clunkers and firmly establish national advertising presence for Kia? Whose job is it to promote your brand?&nbsp;Should you tell your local market how great the vehicles are from Kia? &nbsp;If you've answered yes to the last question, the measure for which you will see the fruits would be like watching grass grow from seed with little to no water! In my years of experience with Kia - both running a dealership and now advising clients, I believe the new product line presents terrific opportunities for Kia, yet nothing has changed. &nbsp;Kias do not attract buyers just by putting them on the showroom floor and waiting for the customers to come. 
&nbsp;
&nbsp;This by no means is a knock on the product...because
it&#8217;s the deal you make with the buyer that sells the brand and puts new Kias in garages, at stoplights, in the parking lot at the mall, and motivates potential customers to shop at your dealership. &nbsp;Stop drinking the cool aid and call us today for the real recipe for success in your Kia dealership...Here&#8217;s to good selling and remember, "Cutting advertising to save money is like stopping a clock to save time" Henry Ford
